Elizabeth II is the constitutional monarch of 16 sovereign states, known as the Commonwealth realms, and their territories and dependencies, and head of the 54-member Commonwealth of Nations.
A year after her 60th diamond jubilee, the 87-year-old queen is showing signs of slowing down. HRH was hospitalized briefly for a stomach ailment in March, and this November she will skip the Commonwealth heads of government meeting in Sri Lanka for the first time since 1973. Elizabeth will send son and heir Prince Charles in her stead and expects to spend her first months as a great-grandmother (grandson Prince William and wife Kate will give birth to the next royal heir in July) at home.
