DTN News - STEALTH HELICOPTER NEWS: SEALs Used Secret Stealth Helicopter In Osama bin Laden Abbottabad Raid....NSI News Source Info # 1915
Making a whisper-quiet helicopter is still beyond the means of modern technology, but military defense analysts say the Sikorsky choppers that Navy SEALs used in the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan were clearly an advance toward that long-sought goal.
One of the helicopters was damaged during a hard landing and the commandos destroyed it before leaving with the infamous terrorist's body. Military aviation experts have been poring over photographs of the debris, particularly the tail section.
Precisely how the Black Hawk helicopters were modified is not known, but the photographs of the wreckage, analysts say, offer new clues to the military's cutting-edge methods.

DTN News - OSAMA BIN LADEN NEWS: US Confirms It Will Not Release Osama bin Laden Death Photo....NSI News Source Info # 1909
Barack Obama has blocked publication of gruesome pictures of Osama bin Laden's corpse, expressing concern that they might incite extremists to retaliate.
But Reuters, in a release not authorised by the US government, distributed disturbing pictures of three other men killed at Bin Laden's Pakistan hideout.
Obama, in an interview with CBS to be broadcast at the weekend, explained why he opted against publication of the Bin Laden picture. "It is important for us to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence," the president said.
Some, including within his own cabinet, had argued in favour of publication as proof that the al-Qaida leader was dead. But Obama said that even if the photos were published, there would still be those who would deny it. "The fact of the matter is you won't see Bin Laden walking on this earth again," the president said.
Security in New York and Washington, as well as at US bases and embassies around the world, has been stepped up to cover the event of any al-Qaida revenge attack.
The debate over the pictures came after a difficult 48 hours for the White House, forced on to the defensive for offering conflicting accounts of the raid on Abbottabad which raised questions about the legality of the killing.

DTN News - OSAMA BIN LADEN NEWS: Bin Laden Buried At Sea, Official Says....NSI News Source Info # 1900
WASHINGTON, - May 2, 2011: Osama bin Laden received a Muslim ceremony as he was buried at sea, a senior defense official said here today.
The religious rites were performed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson in the North Arabian Sea, the official said, speaking on background, and occurred within 24 hours of the terrorist leader's death.
"Preparations for at-sea [burial] began at 1:10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time and were completed at 2 a.m.," the official said.
The burial followed traditional Muslim burial customs, the official said, and bin Laden's body was washed and placed in a white sheet.
"The body was placed in a weighted bag. A military officer read prepared religious remarks, which were translated into Arabic by a native speaker," the official added.
Afterward, Bin Laden's body was placed onto a flat board, which was then elevated upward on one side and the body slid off into the sea.

DTN News - OSAMA BIN LADEN NEWS: Red Alert ~ Osama Bin Laden Killed....NSI News Source Info # 1898
The United States has killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and recovered his body, according to numerous media reports May 1 citing U.S. officials. U.S. President Barack Obama is scheduled to make an announcement on the subject. It is not clear precisely how bin Laden was killed or how his body was recovered, but the assertion that he is dead is significant.
Bin Laden had become the symbol of al Qaeda, even though the degree to which he commanded the organization was questionable. The symbolic value of his death is obvious. The United States can claim a great victory. Al Qaeda can proclaim his martyrdom.
It is difficult to understand what this means at this moment, but it permits the Obama administration to claim victory, at least partially, over al Qaeda. It also opens the door for the beginning of a withdrawal from Afghanistan, regardless of the practical impact of bin Laden’s death. The mission in Afghanistan was to defeat al Qaeda, and with his death, a plausible claim can be made that the mission is complete. Again speculatively, it will be interesting to see how this affects U.S. strategy there.
