DTN News - PAKISTAN NEWS: Pakistani Military Worried About Collaborators....NSI News Source Info # 2005

(NSI News Source Info) ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - May 27, 2011: Embarrassed by the Osama bin Laden raid and by a series of insurgent attacks on high-security sites, top Pakistani military officials are increasingly concerned that their ranks are penetrated by Islamists who are aiding militants in a campaign against the state.

Those worries have grown especially acute since the killing of bin Laden less than a mile from a prestigious military academy. This week’s naval base infiltration by heavily armed insurgents in the megacity of Karachi — an attack widely believed to have required inside help — has only deepened fears, military officials said.

Army chief Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, who like the civilian government has publicly expressed anger over the secret U.S. raid, was so shaken by the discovery of bin Laden that he told U.S. officials in a recent meeting that his first priority was “bringing our house in order,” according to a senior Pakistani intelligence official, citing personal conversations with Kayani.

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada / LONDON, U.K. - May 27, 2011: The British government has given clearance for the use of its attack helicopters in Libya, putting the final decision on deployment in NATO's hands.

Prime Minister David Cameron and British ministers have given clearance "in principle" to put Apache helicopters at NATO's disposal, a person familiar with the matter said Thursday.

Whether or not to deploy the helicopters is now a matter for operational commanders, the person added, requesting anonymity because no formal announcement has yet been made.

The debate over using attack helicopters in Libya has provoked public squabbling between Britain and France in recent days. France said Monday it would deploy attack helicopters and that Britain would too — news the U.K. angrily denied, saying no decision had yet been made.

DTN News - SERBIA NEWS: Serbia Arrests Ratko Mladic On War Crimes Charges....NSI News Source Info # 1999

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada / NEW YORK, U.S. - May 26, 2011: Ratko Mladic, the former Bosnian Serb general charged with orchestrating the largest mass killing of civilians in Europe since World War II, was arrested Thursday in Serbia, ending a nearly 16-year manhunt that stood as a test of the West’s commitment to hold accused war criminals accountable.

Mladic, 69, was indicted twice, first in 1995 by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, on more than a dozen counts of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity during Bosnia’s 1992-95 war. He was charged with commanding troops responsible for enforcing the 46-month siege of Sarajevo and for slaughtering about 8,000 Bosnian Muslims near the town of Srebrenica in July 1995.

After Thursday’s arrest, Serbian President Boris Tadic told reporters in Belgrade that Mladic was picked up by the Serbian Security Intelligence Agency and will be extradited to the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

(NSI News Source Info) DEAUVILLE, France - May 26, 2011: Leaders of the Group of Eight called on Yemen's president to quit on Thursday, hoping to avert civil war flaring up in one part of the Arab world as they prepared to help new democracies flourish in another.

Starting a summit in the French seaside resort of Deauville, the G8 -- seven Western powers plus Russia -- were expected to endorse aid programs for Tunisia and Egypt, the vanguards of the Arab Spring, which has seen autocratic rulers overthrown.

But the bloodshed and fighting in the Yemeni capital Sanaa darkened any sense of congratulation and offered a stark reminder of the violence that has engulfed other states in North Africa and the Middle East, notably also Libya and Syria.

Sooner or later, without any doubt - China will make it's presence felt in every factor from military hardware, aviations, automobiles etcetera in the global arena as an economy super power, as of now - second in GDP (ppp), predicted by 2016 would replace U.S. to number one position; Roger Smith DTN News ~ Defense-Technology News
(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - May 24, 2011: China blocks U.N. report on Missile Technology Transfers.

Nathan Hughes: Predictable denials, from Iran to China, quickly ensued following the leak of the existence of a confidential U.N. report on ongoing cooperation between Iran and North Korean on ballistic missile development as well as Chinese facilitation of the exchange of materiel between the two countries.

Trilateral cooperation between not just North Korea and Iran, but Pakistan as well, in ballistic missile development has been long established and long known, as has Chinese facilitation. But it is this trilateral relationship that is the most overt, not in any official sense but in the simultaneous existence of near-identical medium-range ballistic missiles in each country’s arsenal, in each case, the longest-range operationally fielded missile in the countries. Alternately known as the Shahab-3 to Iran, the Nodong series to North Korea and the Ghauri to the Pakistanis, these missiles have their roots in Soviet SCUD technology, and Soviet SCUD technology is really a fairly rudimentary extension of Nazi V-2 technology from World War II.

Pakistan is furious that that United States sent Navy Seals to raid Osama's Pakistan hideaway earlier this month without informing Pakistani authorities.

Mr Obama told the BBC in an interview broadcast on Sunday that 'we are very respectful of the sovereignty of Pakistan,' but 'our job is to secure the United States.'

He said he could not allow 'active plans to come to fruition without us taking some action,' and would send troops again if a senior Taleban leader was found in Pakistan.

Mr Obama begins a six-day trip to Europe on Monday, visiting Ireland, Britain, France and Poland.
