DTN News - DEFENSE NEWS: China-India Border Talks Pivot On Tibet

DTN News - DEFENSE NEWS: China-India Border Talks Pivot On Tibet

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - April 23, 2013: Throughout the protracted Sino-Indian border dispute, Tibet and its status has always been a predominant influence, whether implicitly or explicitly on the negotiating table. This has both historical and contemporary ramifications.

India, much to China's chagrin, utilized the Tibet issue as a key point of departure in order to strike a grand bargain with Beijing after China occupied Tibet in 1949. Jawaharlal Nehru was of the firm conviction that China and India could encapsulate a grand cooperation in Tibet based on which India would recognize Tibet as part of China while China would recognize Tibetan autonomy.

To Nehru, Tibetan autonomy meant safeguarding Tibet's cultural and social uniqueness. It also meant that China would not militarize Tibet with a massive People's Liberation Army (PLA) presence which could pose a security threat to India.

Propelled by this belief, Nehru recognized Tibet as part of China in 1954. Mao Zedong, however, interpreted Nehru's insistence on Tibetan autonomy as a diabolical plan to turn Tibet into an Indian "protectorate or colony". In the several meetings that he conducted with his Politburo colleagues in the run-up to the 1962 war with India, he argued that the "Indian expansionist" had devious plans to occupy Tibet.

DTN News - SPECIAL REPORT: Two Men Arrested Over ‘al-Qaeda Inspired’ Plan To Attack A Via Rail Train In Toronto Area Says RCMP

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - April 23, 2013: The RCMP arrested two men Monday in connection with an “al-Qaeda-inspired” plan to attack a Via Rail train in the Toronto area, which they said could have led to innocent people being killed or injured.

An international investigation disrupted the scheme before there was an “imminent threat” to the public, said James Malizia, an RCMP assistant commissioner, told a news conference.

The two accused, Chiheb Esseghaier, from Montreal, and Raed Jaser, from Toronto, were charged with conspiring to carry out an attack and commit murder at the direction of or in association with a terrorist group.

The men are not Canadian citizens but police refused to say how they came to be in this country or where they are from originally.

The plot was to derail the train somewhere in the Toronto area, and the two accused had allegedly been watching trains and railways in preparation.

The plan received “direction and guidance” from an element of al-Qaeda based in Iran, said the force, refusing to elaborate. That connection with the Islamic terrorist organization made the plot particiularly significant, said Asst. Supt. Malizia.

Amitabh Bachchan, Dilip Kumar And Shahrukh Khan Come Together For Filmfare Cover

BHGSG News - TORONTO, Canada - April 14, 2013:  Three of Hindi cinema’s larger-than-life living legends have come together for a one of its kind photoshoot.

Leading film glossy, Filmfare has managed to pull off an unimaginable coup to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema. Bollywood’s three legendary superstars, Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan have come together for the cover shot of the magazine’s specially crafted collector’s edition. The trio certainly make for a memorable cover. While Dilip Kumar looks absolutely dapper and elegant in his suit, the man of the millennium Amitabh Bachchan looks his sexiest best in his thick white beard. Big B’s velvet jacket with a pristine white shirt underneath makes him look the iconic shehenshah of B-town that he truly is. And then there is Shahrukh Khan who simply exudes his undeniable charm in this frame.

Style-wise, we think Dilip Kumar looks his best. The thespian’s inherent grace and calm countenance make this cover picture look magical. Big B too with his imposing frame and equally striking pose looks the demigod of the Hindi cinema, and SRK, with his perfectly cut jacket complemented with a white shirt, gives that special edge to the cover. Now you tell us who do you like the most in this iconic picture!

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - April 2, 2013: Boeing [NYSE: BA] handed over the seventh production P-8A Poseidon to the U.S. Navy on schedule March 29, marking the first delivery from the second low-rate initial production contract awarded in November 2011.

The maritime patrol aircraft departed Boeing Field in Seattle for Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla., where it joined six P-8As currently being used to train Navy crews.

"This is our second P-8A delivery of 2013, and we'll continue to provide the Navy with new Poseidon aircraft at a rate of nearly one a month," said Rick Heerdt, Boeing vice president and P-8 program manager. "We've got a full factory of P-8As for the U.S. Navy and P-8I aircraft for India, and we're working side-by-side with both customers to introduce the aircraft's advanced capabilities into their fleets."

Boeing is on contract to build and support 24 P-8A aircraft as part of three LRIP contracts awarded in 2011 and 2012. The Navy plans to purchase 117 P-8As, which are based on the Next-Generation Boeing 737-800 platform. The versatile multi-mission aircraft provides broad long-range maritime patrol capabilities -- anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance -- and will replace the Navy P-3 fleet.

DTN News - DISPUTED EAST CHINA SEA REGION SENKAKU / DIAOYU ISLANDS: Japan Seeks Mongolia Support In China Island Row

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - March 31, 2013: Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe sought support from Mongolia on Saturday in Tokyo's territorial row with Beijing over disputed East China Sea islands, during a visit to the country.

Abe arrived in the Mongolian capital Ulan Bator seeking closer trade and diplomatic ties with the mineral-rich nation, a potentially important strategic partner due to its location on China's northern border and diplomatic ties with North Korea.

"I asked for Mongolian support relating to the Chinese situation and Mongolia expressed its understanding of the Japanese position," Abe said in response to questions from journalists about the islands Japan claims as the Senkakus and China as the Diaoyus.

"I understand the Mongolian situation regarding this issue," he added, at a press conference which followed meetings with Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj and Prime Minister Norov Altankhuyag.

Japan's hawkish leader, who has not held summit meetings with Chinese leaders since he took power in December, also said "the door is open for talks" with China.

Eurocopter delivered its first civil helicopter to R&R Aviation Limited (a concern of Sikder Group) earlier this month – the first of two EC130 B4s that were acquired by the Bangladeshi helicopter operator during the Singapore Airshow last year. To be used primarily for providing emergency medical services (EMS) and humanitarian support, the EC130 B4 can also be reconfigured for air charters, sightseeing tours and aerial observation with a cabin that seats up to eight passengers.

DTN News - DEFENSE NEWS: Finding Post-War Work For 20,000 MRAPs

DTN News - DEFENSE NEWS: Finding Post-War Work For 20,000 MRAPs

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - March 27, 2013: The U.S. Army is converting 250 of its RG33 MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles for use by combat engineers who seek out and clear roadside bombs and mines. This will cost about $150,000 per vehicle. This is part of an effort to make some use of the 20,000 MRAPs the Department of Defense bought (mainly for the army and marines) over the last decade at a cost of $45 billion. Current plans are to put at least half of these vehicles into storage.

About ten percent of them (the oldest and most beat up) will be scrapped and the rest will be donated (to American police departments and foreign armed forces) or used for training. Some will still be used in Afghanistan as long as there are American troops there.
